I teach both online and in-person classes from my classroom in Hiroshima. I've also been teaching a twice-monthly shakuhachi class at the RCC Culture Centre, also in Hiroshima, since 2016.
I teach beginners through to advanced students, focussing mainly on the Goku-Ryu repertoire of twenty-two honkyoku. Honkyoku are traditional/classical pieces, usually for solo shakuhachi, and are associated with Buddhism and meditation.
My teacher granted me my shihan teacher's license in 2014, along with the performing name Myoushin, and my daishihan license (usually translated as "grandmaster", but "grand-teacher" might be more accurate) in 2021.
Before I moved to Japan, I worked for several years at Access To Music, Norwich. I'm fully qualified with a PGCE in post-compulsory education.
